MAD-ID is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides continuing professional education in the area of infectious diseases pharmacotherapy. Educational initiatives and activity content are determined by a ten-member Scientific Committee composed of infectious diseases experts from clinical pharmacy, medicine and nursing and based upon ongoing needs assessments. The main venue for our programming is the annual meeting, which takes place in May of each year. Other MAD-ID initiatives include our Basic and Advanced Antibiotic Stewardship Training Programs; a quarterly newsletter; online, self-paced education; and special, regional programming.
Mission:
Our Mission: The continuing education mission of MAD-ID is to provide education and skills training to health care professionals concerning the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in general, and antimicrobial stewardship, in specific. Participants of our programs should gain knowledge regarding antimicrobial resistance, develop strategies that can be employed to minimize the suboptimal use of antimicrobial agents and implement change at their respective practice sites to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Membership: Membership in MAD-ID is available to all health care providers, including students and post-graduate trainees, interested and/or practicing in the area of infectious diseases. For more information, please visit our membership web page and/or antimicrobial stewardship.

Governance:
MAD-ID is administered by a Board of Directors operating the organization as per its formal bylaws. Current Board members include Michael J. Rybak, President and Treasurer, Kerry L. LaPlante, Vice President, Susan L. Davis, Vice President, and David Ha, Member-at-Large. MAD-ID solicits input/advise from a Scientific Committee.
The overall purpose of the Scientific Committee is to advise the MAD-ID Board of Directors on continuing professional education initiatives, including the program content and faculty as well as the organization’s strategic planning.
Committee Composition: The Committee includes all members of the Board of Directors and others (non-board of directors), selected by the Board based upon their perceived value as advisors to the organization. Non-Board of Directors members’ terms are reviewed annually.
The Scientific Committee has an advisory role to the organization’s leadership and as such, its membership represents a range of backgrounds, experience and expertise relevant to MAD-ID’s mission. In general, members have achieved national and perhaps international recognition for their career activities and accomplishments in the infectious diseases practice, research and education arenas. In addition, its member composition reflects a diverse mix which takes into account such factors as race/ethnicity, gender, age, disabilities and also areas of practice/employment including clinical practice, academia and the private sector.
Conflicts of Interest: In accordance with the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education adopted by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), members of the Scientific Committee are required to submit a disclosure statement annually and any pertinent financial relationships are evaluated and resolved as per the organization’s standing policies (click here to see/review MAD-ID’s policy regarding reporting and resolution of conflicts of interest). Beyond continuing education considerations, members are recused from deliberations in circumstances where other conflicts of interest may arise.
